Why are American and European Roulette wheels different?

The mother country of the Roulette is France, where it was invented by the French mathematician Blaise Pascal. Due to rapid globalization and urbanization, the Roulette wheel crossed oceans and reached different parts of the world. But predominantly, there are two types of Roulette wheels, the European and the American Roulette. The basic difference between these two Roulettes is not their birthplace. There was only one Roulette, and it was the European Roulette, then after years came the American Roulette. The only difference between them is the number of pockets that they have.

The original European Roulette has 37 pockets with 36 natural numbers on them plus a zero. Whereas the American Roulette has 38 pockets with exactly 36 natural numbers and one zero but another 38th pocket with a double zero on it. Generally, the European Roulette is preferred over the American Roulette, keeping in mind the pros and cons of playing on either one of them. The players who have good experience of gambling and have played the game for years, understand the advantage of playing on the European Roulette over the American Roulette.

Analyzing the differences between the European and the American Roulette

The only difference between the two Roulettes is the number of pockets, but the influence of this difference in the game is very important to understand. Let us look at the structure of the European roulette, The European or French Roulette is the original or first Roulette to the world, having a single zero on it and painted green. The rest 36 numbers are 26, 3, 35, 12, 28, 7, 29, 18, 22, 9, 31, 14, 20, 1, 33, 16, 24, 5, 10, 23, 8, 30, 11, 36, 13, 27, 6, 34, 17, 25, 2, 21, 4, 19, 15, and 32. Eighteen of which are painted black and the rest eighteen red.

The American Roulette has the same set of numbers, with the exception that there is an additional pocket with a double zero on it, making the total count of the pockets be 38.

It looks obvious that the chance of the ball hitting the required number is more in the European Roulette than in American Roulette as the number of pockets is one more in the latter than the former.

And mathematically too, the odds of winning on American Roulette are 1 out of 38 as there are a total 38 pockets. And the odds of winning on the European Roulette a 1 out of 37 because of a total 37 pockets.

The pay-out for wins is the same for both the Roulettes that are 35 to 1. The only difference being that this will happen less frequently on the American wheel.

The basic maths involved behind the preference of European Roulette is that once the spinning wheel stops and the bet is successful, the player gets the stake back. This means the house (casino) takes an edge of 2.7%, and the rate of return to the player is 97.3%. The same spinning of the wheel occurs in the American Roulette, but the chances of success of the player diminish due to the presence of an extra pocket. Therefore, here the house has an edge of about 5.26%, and the return to player rate is 94.74%. It’s simply a case of zeros!

Choices available with the Roulette

Most online Roulette casinos offer the choice of playing on either of the wheels, and the same is true with land-based casinos. The player will be asked for the choice that they prefer to choose. There is actually no rule defined for casinos to have a particular kind of the Roulette; it is totally the casino’s choice.

The availability of the Roulette wheel online has made it possible for the players to choose the best for them and stay comfortable. It could be any online web portal like some Vegas-based or the online casino NZ; the choice is of the player and his/her preference.

Roulette wheels spinning virtually!

The hike in online gaming has enabled the players to make some convenient choices that include their comfort, accessibility, and the choice of the wheel they want to play on. There is hardly any physical difference between the European and the American Roulette except the presence of an extra pocket in the American Roulette. The results are generally based on chances as the game does not require any special skills.

In real life, the wheel spins and the acceleration of the wheel are governed by the physical mechanics and electrical physics. And on the online-based casinos, winning or losing is governed by the Random Number Generator. This is a program embedded on the online applications which are truly free of any human influence, and on any interference with it, the situation is alarmed. So, the player need not worry about the online Roulette and results rather, they provide more convenience and comfort to the player and help them relax and place their bet calmly and smartly.

The American Roulette is accepted worldwide, and many players prefer the American Roulette stating their own preferences.
